9/11 – Where were you?

9/11

Where were you when you first heard about 9/11? I know exactly where I was!

The Background

I was working for a computer company called Logica at the time. I worked in their mobile networks section on the billing and switching for their pay as you go systems. I was what they called a technical lead. I was a database administrator and more importantly at this time I wrote the software that upgraded the billing software to the next version.

So, they sent me out to Athens for 5 days to help out with an upgrade for Panafon which later became Vodafone Greece. I was really looking forward to this as I had never been to Athens and always wanted to go. READ MORE

Social Media Sour Grapes

Locked Out

Curses

I knew it would happen sooner or later, it’s like getting a speeding ticket by accidentally going too fast past an automated speed camera. You know you are going to make a mistake sooner or later. Maybe you are thinking about something else and you miss a change of speed zone. It’s probably not a matter of if but when!

I didn’t even know if I should write this because I got locked out of Facebook yesterday and I’m probably in sour grapes mode. I’m not sure what I did wrong as the message was suitably vague and right at the moment I just get this: READ MORE

How To Add A Twitter Feed To Your WordPress Web Site

Twitter Feed

Creating a Twitter feed on your website is easy whether it’s on WordPress or a normal website.

Twitter provide an easy to use way to do this and in this WordPress example WordPress provide a very easy way to install it.

There are WordPress plugins for this but really they are not necessary. In my opinion it is better only to install the plugins you really want and/or need on WordPress. Don’t get me wrong, I like plugins but too many plugins or some not very good ones can cause problems. READ MORE

Dang, I Hit The Send Button Too Soon!

Email delay

Email is great isn’t it! You can send stuff to the other side of the world in seconds. There are couple of things you have to watch out for though. One of them is that you have to be careful that what you say is not misinterpreted and this is the same for any written word and the other …

The Problem

… the other problem is making sure that you send what you mean to send. Here’s a few examples of things that have happened to me and I bet some of them have happened to you too!

Oh My God, I have just sent that email to the wrong email address .. I’m in trouble now! READ MORE

Gmail Tabs – Stick Or Twist?

Gmail tabs

Do you like the new Gmail tabs? I read my Gmail using Microsoft Outlook so from that point of view it doesn’t matter too much how it’s presented on Gmail itself because generally I don’t use it but

Gmail tabs could be a bit of killer for email marketing though 🙁 Maybe, maybe not! I have rules to control my email so that the stuff I’m not really that interested in still comes in but gets shoved out of the way until I’m ready to look at it which of course might be never. I’m betting that it’s not going to make a big difference as people generally filter out what they are not interested in with at least the delete key anyway, they will still be keen to read what they are interested in at least some of the time and those they will make sure they get to see. What Is Facebook Edgerank And Why Is It Important?

Facebook Edgerank

[UPDATE: Facebook no longer use the Edgerank algorithm, a new article will explain how the new Facebook ranking system works soon.]

If your just using Facebook domestically then you probably don’t need to care about the Facebook EdgeRank Algorithm but if you are promoting anything in any way then you probably do!

EdgeRank is how Facebook decides what and where things are shown in Facebook news feeds. I’ll show you what you can do to improve your Edgerank after these next few explanatory paragraphs but it’s really straightforward unless you want to get right down into the detail. READ MORE

Stuart Ross’s Shirt

Stuart Ross Shirt

Stuart Ross, the founder of the Six Figure Mentors, is excellent at many things and there is little to criticise from my point of view. Coming from me that’s quite good because I am quite outspoken sometimes and I don’t always care too much who I am outspoken to (sometimes I get in trouble for it). I just think it’s better in the long run to tell the truth. There is one thing I don’t like about Stuart Ross and that’s that shirt. I can never forgive that shirt, it should be burned … at a fashion show. What, what, you say you like it, nooo, I don’t believe you. You need new glasses. READ MORE

Don’t Put All Your Eggs In One Basket

Multiple Streams

The Big Deal About Multiple Streams

If you quit or lose your job then for most people that’s it until they get another job. As you might know that alone is enough reason to have multiple streams of income. Even if you have your own business you never know how it’s going to go, maybe there will be low spots or the product or service you offer stops selling. If you have at least 2 income streams that are working then you have some insurance especially if the income from either is enough to keep you going. The thing is not to have all your eggs in one basket! READ MORE

The Secret List Of Blocked Web Sites

Blocked Web Sites

Secret Blocked Web Sites … Scary Stuff!

I can’t remember where I picked this article up from, probably twitter or something, maybe Facebook. Anyway, I have lifted the text below from this article on TorrentFreak – Pirate Bay Proxy Now Included in Secret ISP Blocklist.

If governments and/or big companies get control of the internet who will the good, the bad and the ugly be then?

It’s not to do with whether you agree or not with torrent sites and digital piracy it’s to do with the the fact that there is a secret list of blocked web sites at all. Right or wrong, up to now the internet has been a pretty much unrestricted space even if it’s a case of the good, the bad and the ugly. Once you start restricting things where do you draw the line? Who decides? It’s an eternal discussion but once governments and / or large companies get control of the internet things are never going to be the same again and what you can and can’t see will then be decided for you. If blocked web sites are in a secret list then you won’t even know about what you can’t see! READ MORE

Migrating WordPress And Some Tips

Wordpress Migration

Migrating WordPress – My Experience

This post is about my experience migrating WordPress from an older version of WordPress to the latest version (3.5.1 at the time of writing) and from one server to another.

I hope you will pick up some good pointers from it including how to recover from the infamous “white screen of death” and if you don’t know what that is then you are going to find out a little later.

It’s not an exhaustive reference for migrating WordPress. In fact there are so many plugins, themes, styles of content, pictures, video’s etc that I would have thought it would be quite hard to write a definitive step by step guide. READ MORE

Review – 2013, The Year Of Pure Leverage?

Pure Leverage – It’s New And It’s Exploding

I love SFM which I’m still part of. I didn’t like Empower Network. I love Pure Leverage.

If you want to learn about Internet Marketing the right way then The Six Figure Mentors is the place to go but Pure Leverage is just exploding so fast that now is clearly the time to get in. You can be part of one or more training programs as long as you can make money out of them or through them. You are probably going to make more out of Pure Leverage faster than The Six Figure Mentors and Empower Network so I am recommending Pure Leverage and I’m in Pure Leverage. READ MORE

No Engine And Without Flapping

Gliding In Sail Planes

I used to think I was scared of heights but it turns out that this is not true, I’m scared of edges. I’m scared to the point of vertigo and the compulsion to jump just to get it over with. I can jump out of a plane (with a parachute of course), I can para-glide off of hills and I can happily get in any plane or helicopter. Put me on a cliff top and I’m a wreck.

I could write a ton about this subject but I can’t really write a book here so I might do an article on this now and again. For today I hope this will give you a flavour of this incredible, unique and much undervalued sport. Sometimes a little scary, sometimes incredibly beautiful and always a privilege to be in an environment we are not really meant to be in. READ MORE

Simple Solo Ads – Part 3 – An Adventure With List Brokers

List Brokers

In Simple Solo Ads – Part 1 I talked about simple solo ads using other solo list owners. In Simple Solo Ads – Part 2 – Swap’s And Update I talked about swapping and banking with other solo list owners.

In this post I want to start talking about list brokers. This is either a step up or a step sideways depending on your point of view. The opportunity is to get more targeted and better quality leads but it’s a little bit more tricky and more of a gamble than sending your solo’s through other internet marketing solo list owners. I don’t know why it works?

Law Of Attraction?

Have you heard of the Law of Attraction? If you have then maybe you thought it was a load of old rubbish and if you haven’t then maybe you will think it’s a load of old rubbish. Maybe you will think it’s amazing. Maybe it doesn’t matter because many successful people believe in the Law of Attraction and whether you believe in the Law of Attraction or not, it seems to work. Actually it makes a lot of sense and it’s not really so mysterious when you think about it.

Ok, Ok, So What Is “The Law Of Attraction”?

If you boil it down the Law of Attraction means that if you think about something in the right way it will manifest itself. You will attract that thing to you or you will be attracted to it. This works for the good and the bad so in a way, be careful what you wish for! It doesn’t pop out of the air like a genie out of a lamp though, we are not talking about a miracle although sometimes it can be miraculous. READ MORE

iLivingApp.com – Is It, Isn’t It, Haven’t Got A Clue, OMG, I Just Don’t Know!

iLivingApp

Well I’m giving it a go!

I like to recommend things that I personally either believe in myself or have been up front about.

iLivingApp launched on the 1st February 2013 so the truth is nobody knows how well it will do yet but from the due diligence that I have done it mostly looks like it’s worth ago. Whatever happens, with such a low entry cost it won’t be a big deal if it doesn’t go the course. If you don’t join, especially at the beginning, it does do well and you miss out then it’s bit like not playing the lottery when you had the winning numbers. READ MORE

White As A Sheet? Now You Wish You Had Paid More Attention (It’s All Gone)

A bit of an old chestnut this one but I know that some of us are still not taking this seriously and sooner or later there will be tears …

Let Me Tell You A Story

A few years back a small recruitment agency who was a customer of mine for their telecoms and who I liked were so far as I can tell doing OK and were building a good business. Time passes and one day I get a phone call that went something like this  (I don’t remember the exact time or the exact words but this is close enough):

Customer: “Hi Stuart, I wonder if you can help us out, can you get our phone records for the last 3 months” READ MORE

Simple Solo Ads – Part 2 – Swap’s And Update

Swap’s And Update

Scary Huh! Or maybe not, perhaps you have fond memories for Noel Edmonds Swap Shop (an old UK TV show). Anyway, it was the best I could do 🙂

This is not about Swap Shop. It’s a “Simple Solo Ads” update and I will talk about swapping, click swapping. It doesn’t matter if you are new at internet marketing or have been around for a while, swapping is a great way to increase the size of your list. It doesn’t normally cost any money but it will take up a little bit of time. You can bank clicks as well. I will of course explain 🙂 READ MORE

My 15 Favourite Mobile Apps

Mobile Apps

There are loads and loads and … loads of mobile apps available for both Android and iPhone. I juts had a look and it looks like iPhone and Android are more or less neck and neck with about 700,000 mobile apps each.

I guess Blackberry are fading and to be honest I never liked them much anyway (sorry Blackberry lovers). Oops, I must not forget Microsoft Windows for Mobiles which I am sure will burble along for a long, long time but still doesn’t look like it’s going to set the world on fire. READ MORE
